Master Victor Beltran's Flagship Muay Thai School — 40 Years Of Authentic Training In Imperial Beach.
SWAMA Martial Arts is the flagship Muay Thai school in Imperial Beach, California — the original location of Master Victor Beltran's lineage, and the 40-year home of his teaching. Located on Palm Avenue near the Imperial Beach pier and the Silver Strand, the school serves the unique mix of families that make up South San Diego's southernmost beach community: surf families, multi-generation locals, Coronado and South Bay residents, and the active-duty and retired military families connected to NOLF Imperial Beach and Naval Base Coronado. The Imperial Beach location is where SWAMA's signature teaching style was built — authentic Muay Thai grounded in 40 years of practical training, taught with the patience that long-term mastery produces. Classes are structured for kids as young as 4, teens, adults at every skill level from first-day beginners to experienced strikers, and adults specifically looking for fitness, stress relief, and practical self-defense without the intimidation of a competition fight gym. What makes the Imperial Beach school distinct from other martial arts options in South San Diego: it's rooted in a single coach's lifetime of mastery, not a franchise system. Master Beltran teaches here personally. The community is tight, the parents know each other, and the school has been a fixture in the Imperial Beach community long enough that students who started as kids now bring their own children to train. New students are welcome to book a free VIP tour and trial class. Located at 1760 Palm Ave, Suite 400, Imperial Beach — a few minutes from Coronado, San Ysidro, South San Diego, and Tijuana River Estuary.

Kids as young as 5 can begin training at SWAMA. Our youth program is designed to meet children at their level, focusing on coordination, discipline, and confidence before any contact work.
Not at all. Most of our students start as complete beginners. Our coaches walk you through every technique from the ground up, so you'll never feel lost or behind.
Comfortable athletic clothing — shorts or leggings and a t-shirt work great. We train barefoot, so no special shoes needed. We'll provide any equipment you need for your first session.

Yes. Our kids' program emphasizes technique, body control, and respect before any sparring. Students progress at their own pace, and safety is built into every part of how we teach.
Muay Thai is known as the "art of eight limbs" because it uses punches, kicks, elbows, and knees. It's one of the most practical and well-rounded striking arts, combining real self-defense skills with a full-body workout.
We recommend starting with two to three classes per week. That gives your body time to recover while building consistency. Many of our members eventually train four or five days a week as they progress.
Yes. We offer a free VIP tour and trial class so you can experience the school, meet the coaches, and see if SWAMA is the right fit before committing.

Yes. SWAMA's Imperial Beach location is a few minutes from NOLF Imperial Beach and accessible via the Silver Strand from Naval Base Coronado, and the school has a strong tradition of training military families and active-duty personnel. The schedule is built around real-life logistics for families with deployment cycles, shift work, and the variable schedules that come with Navy life.
The Imperial Beach school at 1760 Palm Ave is the original SWAMA location and the flagship of Master Victor Beltran's 40-year teaching career. He founded it and still teaches here personally. SWAMA has a sister location in National City on Plaza Blvd that brings the same Beltran-lineage curriculum to South Bay families closer to the 805.
